AlistairAlistair is a researcher at the University of Edinburgh Business School where he is taking a completely independent look at how fund managers choose to make or buy research: the market for investment research. He also teaches Financial Markets for MSc, MBA, MA and executive education programmes.
Prior to joining the Business School in 2012, Alistair spent 15 years working in quantitative investment research for buy-side and sell-side firms, Kames Capital, UBS and Baillie Gifford, in both Australia and the UK. He has presented at investment conferences in the UK, Australia and Asia. An active member of CFA UK’s Research Analysts’ Special Interest Group, Alistair is a CFA charterholder and studied economics and finance at Strathclyde University (BA) and Warwick Business School (MSc)
JohnJohn has had a long and distinguished career of nearly thirty five years’ experience in the capital markets in a wide variety of leadership roles. John has been at the forefront of many market innovations: most recently he has been a leader for the last decade in the automation of trading, building the market leading algorithmic and high speed trading business at Lehman; founding, as CEO of Chi-X Global, a number of Exchanges in Europe and Asia; and, creating a messaging infrastructure, information and data businesses in his most recent roles.
John is presently a Senior Advisor and Venture Partner at The JRJ Group, a London based private equity firm, where he oversees the group’s technology portfolio and strategy among the portfolio companies JRJ owns. Most recently, for the last two years, John ran the electronic trading and data business for JRJ’s largest portfolio company, Marex Spectron. There he build a market leading commodity data business, as well being instrumental in making Marex Spectron the largest electronic broker on the London Metals exchange, and a top five broker on the CME. Presently, John serves on the Board of Directors and Advisors to a number of fin-tech companies.
A graduate of Georgetown University, Mr. Lowrey is married with four children and one grandchild.
DonDon is a well-known and experienced lawyer in London specialising in capital markets. In his sixteen year tenure as a partner at Freshfields, he developed extensive expertise in practicing US securities law in the international context in London. He has in-depth knowledge of the business and regulatory environment of investment banks and financial institutions. Earlier in his career, he advised on numerous technology IPOs and venture capital transactions in the US and Europe. In 2013, Don joined Baker & McKenzie as Senior Counsel, where he continues his capital markets advisory work and also advises the firm’s management on a range of strategic and business issues.
Don is also actively involved in his alma mater, Harvard College, where he is on the board of both the Harvard Alumni Association and the Harvard Club of the UK. He serves on the boards of Anjali House, an educational charity in Cambodia, and The Faction, an innovative theatre company in London.
